Helping a Parent-- Need ideas please

Do you have parents that ask you for a variety of creative ways to encourage their child to learn at home? I have a student who is quick to frustrate and has the "I can't" idea stuck in his head and I'm trying to find a variety of new ideas that I can send home.

I am trying to come up with the following lists:
  • variety of (free) websites that work on math skills, reading skills etc for 1st grade students.   I have parents that are asking for a variety of websites such as starfall.com
  • a variety of different homework ideas that are winners in your classroom

Do you have any suggestions?  Please post below!

  2. I've been using wwwfun4thebrain.com and www.funbrain.com on my Smartboard this week. I tried them out on my kiddos at home first and they liked them too! They have reading and math games. So far my firsties are really loving the Popcorn word game on fun4thebrain and the Tic Tac Toe subtraction game on funbrain. And of course, spellingcity gets a work out at my house for my 2nd grader.

  3. So, this may not be exactly what you're looking for... but with students who frequently try "I can't" we quickly outlaw those words and then have to ask, "How can I...?" It totally changes their mindset and eventually begins working on them coming up with solutions! Wish I could help with more websites... have you checked out internet4teachers? It might offer a few new sites.
